Frequently Asked Questions*

What skills will I need to make the beaded amulet bag?

You do not need any particular skills, only a willingness to learn and patience with fine detail. You will need to be able to pick up individual seed beads onto a needle. If you are an arts and crafts person and have done any sewing, knitting, crocheting, etc., or enjoy crafts, you should be able to follow the easy to understand directions and diagrams to make the beaded bag.

I’ve never used a bead loom. Is it hard to learn?

There are many websites with bead loom instructions. These can be found if you go to your favorite search engine and type “bead loom instructions”, or use the drop down box below to view a website with loom instructions. I had done a small amount of beading when I saw a bead loom for sale and thought I would like to try that. I bought the loom, followed the warping instructions, made up a graph, and went to work. I enjoyed watching the design take shape, and found the process of loom beading enjoyable, quick and easy.

How hard is it to make the bag?

The body of the bag is made on a bead loom. I find “bead loom” beading quicker and easier than “off loom beading”. The fringe of the bag is done using needle and thread. The neckpiece is done by stringing beads onto a wire and using crimp beads. The people designs are a little more involved, some have a small extra row of fringe for the skirt.

How long will it take me to complete the bag?

This will depend on you and how often you work on it. The first time I made one it took me a week. This included the time it took me to design it and pick out the bead colors. I can now make a bag from start to finish in about 16 hours.

*Note: The New people designs are a little more involved than my other designs. They have added skirts, gowns, earrings, etc. They each have a charm that compliments the design. The gown on the graduate and legs of the skier are done using square stitch. These kits contain step by step instructions on square stitch.
